UNI and ISSO highlight Nigeria in the Hub

Several hundred students gathered May 2 in the Hub to sample Nigerian food, learn about Nigerian culture and play traditional games. Nigeria Coffee Hour included aromatic and spicy dishes such a jallof rice and goat pepper soup, tempered with sweet bread puff puff and fried plantains. There are four Nigerian students studying at SCAD Atlanta. All were instrumental in the success of this event, along with several other volunteers from UNI Intercultural Club of SCAD Atlanta.

ISSO outing to professional baseball game — May 17

The ISSO sponsors an outing to Turner Field to see the Atlanta Braves baseball team play the Miami Marlins. We will learn a little about the complex rules of baseball, explore the stadium, and sample some stadium food for a real taste of American culture.

The $15 fee includes one general admission ticket, transportation by MARTA to and from the game, peanuts and bottled water. Other food is not included and participants are encouraged to bring additional money for snacks at the stadium. We will depart from SCAD as a group at 6 p.m. on May 17, returning when the game ends (approximately 10 or 11 p.m.)

To sign up and secure your space, bring $15 to ISSO office (Peter May) by May 14, 5 p.m. with your name, mobile phone number and student ID. Late sign-ups may not be accepted. The trip is open to any SCAD student, faculty or staff. Cash or check made out to SCAD is accepted. Trip may be cancelled without minimum number of students and is subject to ticket availability.

Summer plans for international students in Spring House and ACA

International students who live in the residence halls and who will not be studying during the summer must take note of some important information:
  • Residents of both Spring House and ACA who are not studying this summer must make plans to depart their room by June 2. If your flight is booked already and is after this date, please email Peter May as soon as possible with a copy of your confirmed international flight itinerary. Please be sure to specify whether you live in ACA or Spring House.
  • No on-campus storage is provided. If you need to store your things for the summer, the best choice is to find a trustworthy friend to help you! If you must rent a storage facility, ISSO recommends using a company called Space Max on 14th Street. Space Max will give you one month free rent if you say that you are a SCAD student.
  • Please contact Peter May if you need assistance moving on June 1.

SEVIS I-20s must be signed for summer travel outside the U.S.
